When I saw this story was being continued, I literally heard the Hallelujah chorus. This is shaping up to be an epic story. Please continue and finish this excellent story. I cannot wait for the next chapter.

Thanks amigo! Different strokes and all that…the idea of Johnathan being alive took hold of me, way back when, and I just ran with it. Obviously I agree with you about Mrs. B’s passivity, something had to be done about it! There’s an article I can recommend that analyzes the subject far better than me, at:

Thanks for your kind words. It’s been surprising to me how few fan-fics go into detail about how the Brisbys first met, tho I haven’t read them all yet. Why “Johnathan”? The next time you see “TSoN” pay close attention to Nicodemus’s journal entries, and tell me what you see!

This might be my favorite fanfic of NIMH so far. It's also one of the few cases when it could actually fit into canon. I could definitely see this as a prequel to NIMH. One small quibble: why "Johnathan" instead of "Jonathan?"

Interesting.....I see this is a favorite among users on this site. It could never work as a true NIMH sequel, but as a stand alone work, it's damn impressive.

One more thing Id like to add: I liked the scene where Mrs. Brisby stands up to the Shrew. It shows that she has grown out of her meekness. One thing that annoyed me about the writing of the film was that when she detected any sort hostility between her and the other characters she looked down upon herself. Her passive tone with dealing with the characters was a major weakness in the film for me and I'm glad you're trying to break Brisby out of that mold.

I'm not sure I like the idea of Jonathan being alive. I would've much preferred if the story centered around the children adjusting to Thorn Valley and learning more about their fathers role in the Thorn Valley plan. Yet again, this isn't really a criticism of your work, it's just a personal bias of mine. Part of the fun of fanfiction is creating "what if" scenarios after all. It's well done otherwise.

Thanks, I thought it came out pretty good myself. How did I come up with it? Well, I won’t say it just came to me at once, but it did form over several weeks following several viewings of “TSoN.” The original version, after I’d typed it up, was a bit rushed and scrappy, but I think I’ve improved in the quarter-century since then. I’m currently still in the process of writing this new version. BTW, MB, feel free to register at Simon’s Thorn Valley site if you haven’t already.
