All's Fair in Love and War

By Megan Lucas

A sequel to the film that focuses on the colony in Thorn Valley, paying particular attention to Jenner's family and the amulet. A good little read!

All Souls Night

By Kkatman

A sequel to the film that takes place on All Souls Night. A group of spirits visits those who need them the most.

Any Door, Any Key

Dr.
Ages watched as Mrs. Brisby scurried out of his lair, returning with medicine
for her ailing child. “Oh yes, madam. I am working on something very
important. Very important, indeed.” The mouse hobbled back into his lab,
comforted by the sight of the massive tubes and strange liquids in them.
“Nicodemus... you have served the Rats of NIMH well, but no longer. You’ve
outstayed your welcome.” He couldn’t remember when he’d started talking to
himself... it was a long time ago, indeed. A mouse in a society of rats just
couldn’t have many friends, and that was that.

Author's Note

A note from the author...

Before venturing onward, brave traveler, I feel compelled to
caution you. When your mind envisions the scenes contained herein, you will see
not only humans, but a very different manner of creature. It could not be
called an animal. You see, those we know are but a simple folk.

Undeniably, when animals stretch into our domain, the event
fascinates and captures us: a timid squirrel takes from your hand, a loyal dog
saves its master, a clever chimp learns language. In our art and diversion, we
construct fabulous image-creatures who listen and speak, give us help or
friendship. In our fantasies, we give them clothes, language, and intelligence.
Our rampant imaginings betray a desperate sadness that animals cannot become as
we. They are fated to exist in the cage domain of instinct, hunger, and reward.
No matter how long we search for facets of ourselves, the whole is simply not
there.

Author's Note

This story was inspired by a picture I saw while visiting Ken Singshow's
Webpage. I thought that it was such a strange and interesting juxtaposition of
imagery that I just had to write something based on it. Such a genre (called
"crossover") is certainly not unique in Science Fiction/Fantasy
literature. Countless "Star Trek", "Dr. Who" and other fans
have written stories using characters from other completely different shows or
media. (I know of at least one Dr. Who/Mr. Peabody story.) So I guess that a
story mixing elements from Walt Disney Productions' "Robin Hood"
(1973) and Don Bluth Productions' "The Secret of NIMH" (1982) is, on
reflection, not all that out of line. Rest assured that I will do my best to
maintain both the comedic and dramatic spirit of the movies while, at the same
time, maintaining a certain dignity in the characters.

Author's Note

Well, in this short-not very good-novel, I tried to present the character
of Justin as a tormented one. In the movie, he appears only 15 minutes before
the end of the story. It's unfair! What a potentially great guy! So I hope
that all the Justin's fans will love this story even if I don 't write like
Racine or Victor Hugo.

I condensate it in a short period of time: Justin's fate
"bascule" (damn! I don 't know the English word !) in only one day.
It's because I didn't want to spend my time with details--just focusing about
the main character. Sorry!

This story doesn't speak very much about the stone (in fact, in the novel,
the stone theme is a dead end !), Mrs Brisby or the things who are ordinarily
associated with the secret of NIMH. I tried to make something different (even
if this novel is in fact a simple dramatic love-story, eugh!) Some NIMH fans
help me inconspicuously: The rat priest drawn by Ken Singshow inspired me Erik
and I'll lie if I say that the description of the stone's powers is a pure
invention of myself: Thanks to Steve Vanden-Eykel! (I hope you'll receive
the comic I send you soon , but there is a lot of miles between France and
Canada).

Author's Note

This is not necessarily a sequel to The Secret of NIMH.
This is more like a drastically different version of the story. The main
difference is probably the setting. Instead of intelligent mice and rats living
in their own world, in this version they live along side humans. In this world,
humans and rodents live with each other as people. The world is exactly the
same as it appears around you. Except that if you lived here, some of your friends
would be mice and rats as well as humans. The same events have taken place in
this world over it’s existence as in our own. Why is it this way you ask? I’m
really not sure, I started making this up when I was eleven. So I figured, why
change it, it should make for an interesting twist in the story. Besides, mice
and rats are cool and I have no idea how Mrs. Brisby would look as a human.
Note that this is written in a combination of novel and script form. I did this
so it would be easier to keep track of who is speaking. Something else I must
mention, this is a chronicle as the name implies. Don’t look for a plot,
because there is none.

Capitulo 1
